The Problem

TennCare has reduced the number of uninsured children in Tennessee. However, TennCare coverage does not always guarantee adequate access to needed medical, behavioral, and dental services. Over 5000 children in Cumberland County, Tennessee are covered by TennCare, and many of these children have difficulty accessing needed healthcare services.

What We're Doing About It

Through a grant from the American Academy of Pediatrics' Community Access to Child Health program, we seek to:

  • Understand the barriers to primary, secondary, and ancillary pediatric health care services for Cumberland County children with TennCare
  • Identify methods to improve access to pediatric care for these children using the network of existing services and providers
  • Identify methods to encourage Tennessee pediatric providers to participate in TennCare, or to increase their relative participation
