Dr. Suzanne Berman, along with other colleagues in the medical world, was a participant in the American Academy of Pediatrics advocacy leading to a change in coding for vaccine administration. The advocacy led to increasing the number of MUE's (medically unlikely edits) allowed daily by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) and several private payers. This fall, we’ll be offering flu shots, but not the nasal “FluMist” product. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) http://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2016/s0622-laiv-flu.html and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) have recommended that the nasal vaccine not be given this year due to concerns about poor effectiveness. While we know that many of our patients prefer the nasal vaccine as opposed to “getting stuck,” Plateau Pediatrics is committed to following vaccine recommendations and only offering safe and effective vaccines. The flu shot is still recommended, and we will have it in stock for all our patients ages 6 months and up. Watch our website and Facebook page for further announcements.
