BMI, or Body Mass Index, is a number that is calculated using your height and weight to determine how much body fat you have. This number is then plotted on a chart to tell us if you are underweight, normal, overweight, or obese. If your BMI is high you can eat healthy and exercise to help it reach the normal range.

To calculate BMI, use the BMI calculator found at  https://www.cdc.gov/bmi/child-teen-calculator/index.html.

A BMI above the 95th percentile is termed obese.

To give you an idea of what BMIs are by age and sex, look at the tables below. You can download a complete BMI percentile chart (in PDF format) for boys ages 2-20 and for girls ages 2-20.
